Give Me What I Want – Kids in Glass Houses

"Give Me What I Want" is the second single by Kids in Glass Houses to be taken from the band's debut album Smart Casual. It was released on 19 May 2008. The track was originally released as "Me Me Me" in June 2007. It has since been re-recorded and renamed "Give Me What I Want" for the album Smart Casual. It has reached #62 on the UK Singles Chart. Kids in Glass Houses are a five-piece pop punk band from Cardiff, the capital of Wales. There target audience is mainly the younger generations and teenagers. The video is mainly performance based with the band performing at house parties. This would be very easy for the target audience to relate to.

There is lots of significance between the lyrics and the visuals. This is portrayed through out the whole video with the director wanting to show the band as a young, out going and care free band. The lyrics portray a very out going and fun lifestyle which is what the majority of the target audience would have. This is shown throughout the video with all the different party scenes.

Through the video there is not a real relationship with the music and the visuals as there aren’t any cuts, the camera keeps moving right and the scenes are in lots of different rooms. In the different rooms it changes from performance scenes of the band to scenes of people partying and having fun.

The image of the band is promoted significantly throughout the video with lots of close up shots of the lip syncing and the band members playing their instruments. There are also lots of shots of the band members partying and having fun. The mise-en-scene is of lots of people of similar age to the band members enjoying themselves at the house party. This is also showing very stereotypical behaviour of teenagers at a house party.

This is a very typical music video of this genre that doesn’t challenge any generic conventions and is not a very original idea. Lots of other bands who work in the same genre have created videos along similar lines such as Boys like girls, You Me At Six and Go audio.

Give Me What I Want is very much a performance video with lots of shots of the band playing and lip syncing with the lead singer. There is no narrative structure within in this video, just shots of the band performing and scenes from house partys.

In conclusion this is a very simple and easy video to make, but it portrays the band in exactly the way in which they want to be portrayed. It also targets a very small audience who would find this video very relevant to there lifestyle and would be able to associate with it.
